Aspect Ratio, the One Factor That Defines an Image or An Object
Aspect Ratio is the ratio of width to height of an object. It is a very important parameter that one must be aware of. There are many uses of this ratio. You can ask anyone who is in the movie or image industry about this ratio. The ratio 1.85: 1 is used in all DVD boxes. This is the standard upon which all the DVD boxes are developed in the world. Therefore another utility of this ratio is that it can be used to set the standard for objects that are manufactured all over the world.
The term aspect ratio showed its real importance back in the 1950s. This term was used to define the ratio of width and height of a movie. At that time this standard was set to 1.33: 1. In the beginning there was a downfall in the movie industry and people in the industry were trying different things to somehow compensate for the downfall.
They tried varying the aspect ratio as much as they could and the ratio that was used when movies became popular again was 1.85:1 and 2.35: 1.
Apart from the movie industry this term was also used in the determining the standard for the sizes of paper. This was a really important aspect since printers, scanners and other photocopy machines needed to be developed after knowing the exact size of the paper. Therefore many standards came up and the most famous among them is the A4 paper with a ratio of 1.2921 which is used throughout the world.
